If you’ve been on Facebook these past few days, you must have been seeing cosplayers posting their cosplays alongside a screenshot with their friends’ cosplay.
You may think it’s kinda weird but it turns out to be just another bandwagons cosplayers got into this week. It got really famous that almost every cosplayer in everyone’s newsfeed did it.
Some people, especially non-cosplayers, might have found it annoying since almost everyone was into it. Some cosplayers even do it multiple times since there are threads for a certain anime (guilty here.)
But let’s look at the positive side.
Anne Ai, a local cosplayer took notice of this cosplay bandwagon at thought it was pretty cool.
Personally, this made me smile as I read it. Despite how negative some people are, this cosplayer saw the positivity lying behind the trend. Here are some of the points she mentioned:
“It celebrates everyone’s cosplays…”
It sure does. Every cosplayer, whether newbie or veteran, young or old, they took part of the bandwagon. Some even posted their old cosplays since the theme of the thread is a certain anime that they have cosplayed years ago. The captions are also fun and encouraging other cosplayers to continue the thread.
“Instead of feeling insecure, they are all cosplaying the same character.”
This is what amazed me as well. Most of the time, some cosplayers would be discouraged once they saw someone– a friend or a famous cosplayer– cosplay the same character as them, thinking it was better. But with this bandwagon, everyone was happy to share their own version of the same character, even calling out more cosplayers to join the train.
“Some people get to expose some of their cosplays which they did way long ago…”
Some cosplayers who joined has been in the community for more than 5 years also joined the cosplay photo train. Whenever a certain theme or anime was on, they dig for their old photos just to join the fun. They even tagged their old mates to share theirs as well. Surely it brought the feeling of nostalgia to them. And their new friends were delighted to learn that they have cosplayed that character before.
Even those who used to cosplay shared their photos as well
It may be a new trend yet it brought back the good old memories.
It was really good to see everyone sharing their photos. In fact other versions branched out from this bandwagon.
Some cosplayers started a thread of their cosplay pairings.
Another thread was made for traps.
The bandwagon was so hyped that cosplayers started doing it with non-cosplay related stuff such as their wallpapers.
It went on for almost a week. In fact, I can still see a few friends post something related to the bandwagon.
Yes, bandwagons may sometimes be annoying to see. But there are some a few trends such as this which radiate positivity to the community. It showed what cosplay is really all about: having fun while portraying our favorite characters.
