Ozine Fest wraps up 2022 with a year-ender event taking all of us back to the 90’s! The Ozine Retro Fest event was held just 2 days after Christmas, and it did not disappoint as it was a jam-packed event that the community has looked forward to.
From Akazukin-chacha, to Yu Yu Hakusho, and more classic series were brought to life by cosplayers for the entirety of the event. It was a real trip down memory lane and nostalgia-filled emotions reminisce back for the “tito’s and tita’s” of the anime and cosplay community. Ozine has also prepared games and segments to their programs and everyone who is anyone was welcome to join! It was a chance for the most of us to relive our childhood days with Teks, Jolens, and Tumbang Preso where we saw a few participants showcased how “batak” they were.
Ozine also continued preparing a cosplay segment for our Fur Babies, Cats and Dogs were given na chance to take the stage and cosplay our favorite characters. For the past few Ozine events the organizers have taken notice that not only to their attendees cosplay but their lovable pets as well, more images of these fur babies can be seen through our Facebook Page. Most of them also were good bois and girls as they were well behaved and adorable during their shining moments at the event stage.
The Cosplay Stage “for humans” as the events host have joked, were also dominated by classic series with their superb skits and performances. The crowd was hyped up with the wonderful couple cosplay and of course by Son Goku.
The Retro craze also extended outside the event where the highlight was this low cost cosplayers who went as the hit boyband group “BackStreet Boys” who pumped the crowd with a handheld speaker playing the groups greatest hits.
Overall, the first Retro fest held by Ozine was one of its kind. It was something that most of us in the community has thought of as a “what if event”, which was successfully pushed through by Ozine events as seen and experienced by us first hand. Feedbacks from the community was also great and most are looking forward for a return of the Retro themed event.
Before we concluded our two day coverage of the event, we had a chance to ask Sir Bryan Uy, the head organizer of the event, if the Retro themed event/convention will happen again sometime soon. We had a short conversation on how it was great that they made this happen and they would definitely push this through this 2023. Sir Bryan mentioned that the next theme will most likely focus on the early 2000’s, where the last wave of MTV’s and most of Millenials and Gen Z’s childhood anime series were born.
