Through the previous years, the aidoru industry has been making a huge presence here in the country. From idol themed games and anime to having cover groups and idol groups– it’s really clear that the fandom is getting big every year. And because of this, the first ever Anime Idol Convention was born.
Bringing in their merch, nesoberis, and their trusty lightsticks, idol fans gathered together on the 13th of January in Bayanihan Center, Pasig City to celebrate their love for their favorite 2D idols.
Of course, there were some attendees who came in with their adorable and flashy idol cosplays.
The event was also joined by fans who were in non-idol cosplay. Nevertheless, they were still welcomed to join in the festivities.
The artist booth were full of idol-themed goodies, of course. There was even a booth with a summoning circle for the gachas, hoping the RNG gods will bless their rolls with SSRs.
As usual, most attendees arrived after lunch which was just in time for the festivities to begin.
The afternoon started with a very fun and competitive that will surely test the idol fans’ knowledge, an Idol Trivia Game led by hosts Naru and Karlonne.
The good and fun thing about it is that anyone can join– even artists and media partners. The first one to shout their oshi’s name gets the chance to answer. Everyone was on their knees to run to the microphone to declare their oshi– along with the answer.
Things got to competitive, however as attendees went rushing and even stumbling their way to the microphone.
We also got to know the story behind AiCon’s mascots during the artist panel.
The afternoon was packed with performances from the contestants. Each showcasing their star factor, singing, and dancing to impress the judges.
In the “scout” panel were experienced people who has been in the industry. One of them is Aidoru Sozai’s Midnight Blue, Mikachu.
There was never a dull moment on stage with all the different performances making each and every attendee scream for joy and love for their fandoms.
One of the highlights of the event is the Group Dance Battle– in which known cover groups Aquarius and Dreamcatchers took part of. Both groups got a fair share of cheers as Love Live fans cheered for their performance.
Aquarius gave a very lively performance, complete with acrobatics that excite everyone.
While Dreamcatchers gave a very emotional performance as they danced to an iconic Love Live song.
And of course, St. Snow was there to challenge them, making the cast complete.
Just like what Nico Yazawa said, “an idol’s job is to make everyone smile.” And with that, we can truly say that the first ever Anime Idol Convention was successful as everyone’s smiles were bright that day.
We look forward to another AiCon for the coming years!
