Setsu Ani has been given the chance to be part of one of the awaited conventions every year.
Best of Anime 2018’s venue may be small, but it was still packed with everything Anime.
Best of Anime has past but some of us still can’t really get over from the event’s happenings.
Even at a small hall, a lot has happened– cosplayers and friends gathering, cosplay competitions, booth activities, and of course the meet and greet sessions and the awaited concert.
Here’s a recap of what happened! In case you want a trip down the memory lane this early.
Best of Anime attendees for day 1 lined up early. There were a lot of space to roam around. This was a perfect time to go in and appreciate the booths– especially the Animax booth that welcomed attendees as they enter the venue. They also had the anime trivia game wherein fans compete with each other to test their knowledge about their favorite anime.
Quantum was also there to join the fun, sharing their arcade games with everyone. Most attendees lined up for the rhythm games– who could ever get enough of them?
The Filipino-made anime, Barangay 143 stole the spotlight as they occupied a large area across the stage. There were games, a jeepney display, a sari-sari store, and of course the Filipino favorite– karaoke.
The stage area was also packed with audience and listeners, especially for the first event: Voice acting 101 with synergy. He explained how it is to work behind the scenes of our favorite animes being dubbed. Tips on breathing, facial expressions, and even behavior were discussed on stage.
This was followed by last year’s Anime Idol Dance Battle winner Seishun Kakumei’s performance. They surely owned the stage once again as they performed for their comeback. This signaled for the Anime Idol Dance Battle to start. Of course, Starmarie was there to judge and cheer for the contestants.
Next was the guest cosplayer, Mon to take over the stage and share some of her make- up tips. She had detailed photos to aid cosplayers with their make up game– especially for male cosplays.
As festivities continue at the event halls, those who went extra found their way to the meeting rooms of SMX to have their meet and greet session with cosplayers Onnies and Mon. Attendees got to interact with their favorite cosplayers and even asked them questions. Onnies held a small game where she gave out acrylic keychains as prizes, while Mon acknowledged those who asked questions by personally giving them her cosplay cards.
As expected, a lot more people attended the second day of the convention as most people had their day off on Sundays. Attendees lined up as early as 9 AM just be in the convention halls. Sharing SMX with other events was no hindrance for them to enjoy themselves at the second day of Best of Anime 2018.
This time, Onnies was the featured cosplayer onstage with her accurate Chloe cosplay from the game Detroit Become Human. She and Mon were judges for this year’s Inter-school cosplay competition, wherein a Saber Lily cosplayer got the gold.
Best of Anime regular guest idols Starmarie conquered the stage as they performed for their fans the fifth time. Cheers and chants filled the stage area as wotas danced to the beat with their light sticks waving in the air. But they were not only the idols who went on stage.
Local idol group Aidoru Sozai also went on stage to give their growing number of fans a lively performance. It was even more special as they showed a teaser of their original song which they performed on Manila Idol Matsuri.
It was JMusic fans’ special day as it was their turn to meet their idols Starmarie, Valshe, and An Cafe in the meeting rooms.
Starmarie was ever so enthusiastic as they shared the best part of going back to the Philippines is their growing fanbase. While Valshe shared her interest on having concert in the country if given chance. Fans got to watch her and An Cafe live at the concert held that evening in the second floor halls.
The venue may be small, but everyone had their fill as the Best of Anime 2018 drew to a close.
